13 Jul 2011I am a member of many internet marketing forums and read a ton of blog posts every week (yeah, a lot of time gets wasted sometimes) but the weird thing is, most of these people are looking for get rich quick methods that simply do not exist. Yes, a few hundred if not thousand information products about make money fast and make money quickly online are released only to cater to thousands others who buy them and feel duped.
These are the same people who discuss in forums about how Adsense is NOT the way to make money online.
We’ll you’re right, Adsense is not a get rich quick scheme and you cannot be a millionaire overnight. But it is the BEST WAY to get started. Its the best way to make money online if you are a newbie and do not have any money to spend. With time on your hands, you can build a website for free, have it running by the end of the day and have advertisers the next day using Adsense.
I started building websites back in 2005. At that time I was still in college and wanted a way to make money to buy faster graphics cards, computer games, latest gadgets etc. I started providing computer repair services and helping friends develop projects but all that was too time consuming and not very scalable.
It is during that time that I decided to build a website catering to engineering students that’ll help them hunt for jobs, get ideas for projects, learn basic programming, download samples of resumes and project report templates. The website was built but again, I had to make a ton of phone calls to get a handful of advertisers onboard.
That’s when I learnt about Adsense. Life became so much easier. Since then, I had to only focus on 2 things.. quality content and increasing traffic to my website. The money part was already taken care of.
As a student, I was making $20 to $50 per day. That, at my age was a lot of money for a college boy. After college, I further developed my website, made a few more websites and I hit $100 per day very easily.
Flash-forward to TODAY!
There are a lot of websites that use Adsense and a lot more advertisers. People say adsense is too much work, well, making money online requires hardwork, be it using affiliate marketing or using adsense.
All you need to find is the right niche to build your website and you’ll have enough ads to splash that’ll make you some pretty good money every month.
Adsense is NOT DEAD. Infact its the EASIEST way to get started. You just need to build a website on the right topic and get some rankings on Google – you’ll be on your way to ‘passive income heaven’.

6 Tips to Conduct Better Meetings

I’ve been meeting a lot of people lately, discussing ideas, helping improve their business, online marketing advice and a lot of other things. Usually I meet them over weekends, meet them casually, have coffee and talk business. As I do these more and more, I’m learning a lot of things about conducting meetings and what I’ve been doing wrong the past couple of years. Here are some tips that will help you deliver meetings that the participants find value in and are interested in attending!
Start the meeting with something different.
I’ve found that starting a meeting with something that has nothing to do with the reason you are meeting or a specific business topic helps create the right kind of connection between everyone in the room or at the meeting table. Talk randomly about anything be it a movie that you saw last week or any interesting piece of news you read somewhere. It might look like a waste of time but you’ll that this will fill the room with interest and people who may not be very open to talking (shy) will speak more/voice themselves better in the meeting. Sometimes starting your meeting with a funny picture, story or even a joke can be very interesting.
Value Everyone’s Time
It’s very easy for us to create 30min or 60min meetings because Google Calender or Outlook does so. But ask yourself, do you really need 60minutes to discuss this? If you need 20mins, take 20, if you need 10, just take 10mins, hop into a conference room with a piece of paper, talk stuff, gather info and go right back to your work. Short, quick meetings are the most productive ones. If you only use the minutes needed rather than scheduled, there will be new believers in your system resulting in greater engagement and participation.
Be Prepared for the Meeting
I’ve been to meetings where I did not know what the meeting was about, neither did the leader/host of the meeting. Meetings like these are a waste of everyone’s time. Prepare an agenda for everyone meeting, share it with everyone attending the meeting and ask them to add/remove any points they think are required. Ask everyone to review the agenda before the meeting or better, just pop it up on the LCD screen/projection minutes before the meeting begins. You will see that it becomes much easier to get through your meetings and reach to the core topic of the meeting. This shows everyone that you care about their time and you’ll see overtime people are on time for every meeting and very well prepared.
Follow up Your Meeting with an Email
It takes 5 minutes to put together all the points you discussed in the meeting and the actionable points along with the name of the person who will be taking the action/responsibility. If you take these 5mins right after the meeting and send an email out to everyone, not only will find that almost all your meeting action points will start getting completed but you’ll also appear very organized and gain respect from everyone on your team. The email should have the Recap, Time-line, Action Items, People assigned to each action and next steps.
Talk to Everyone if They Don’t Talk to You
In every meeting you’ll see people who are reserved, shy, hesitant or quit. Mostly people ignore them and move on with their own agenda therefore you may never get their inputs. This needs to change. Some of them may have great ideas but you need to ask them, “Did we miss anything?”. This question, asked at the end of every meeting will provide them an opportunity to talk, contribute and make your meeting more result-oriented.
Do you really need a Meeting?
I cannot count how many times I have been called into a meeting when the whole point of the meeting was one single question and something that could have been asked in an email. People sometimes get too obsessed with meetings and forget that it needs to be kept simple. If you think you need DISCUSS something that would take more than 10 minutes, ask for a meeting, otherwise just drop an email and find out if you really need one. You’ll be surprised how many times you’ll find solutions just by email discussions.

I have been trying some media buying lately. Though the conversions arent great, but the results are fantastic so far – I still have to learn to optimize my campaigns to the best but even for starters, they look SO MUCH BETTER than Google Adwords advertising. After reading a lot of reports and going through few recent internet marketing courses, I realized IMers are moving more towards secondary ways of generating traffic – CPM and CPV rather than CPC. Thats where I got started researching into this area which looked to me built only for bigger companies earlier but with the vast amount of ad networks accepting individuals and giving you a platform to throw your ad across millions of people, you have a greater chance of success.

Google Buzz Launched – I Got IN!

10 Feb 2010Google rolled out Google Buzz this morning to a few thousands of users and I dont see many of my friends using it but they will definitely be ON it very soon. Check out what all it does..
I bet everyone is thinking.. IS THIS GOOGLE’S ANSWER TO TWITTER ?
I am sure it is.. I actually have thought more about it in the past few mins than I have ever thought about why people use Twitter. If you’ve used Twitter, you must know that Buzz has all the features that were missing from Twitter..
- Buzz doesnt limit you to 140 chars ( yes, I do type longer stuff sometimes only to be limited by the chars )
- Buzz allows you to post images inline.
- Also, you can post and view video online.
- You can connect it with Flickr, Twitter etc.
- It is present INSIDE of Gmail so I am sure a gazillion people will have access to it very soon and you wont need to search your friends and follow them but you will start following them automatically.
- You can communicate privately, publicly or only to a group of people ( I know twitter does this too )
Also, I was thinking, why bring in Buzz when Google had launched Google Wave sometime back ?
Well, I guess Google isnt afraid of competing with itself ( eg. The Android OS and the Chrome OS )
Ah, what about Facebook ? Is Google trying to compete with Facebook? Giving a second shot at social networking after the popular-in Brazil and India ORKUT ? I am sure if it is, the competition will be very interesting to watch than Google vs Twitter.
Also, did you know Yahoo has a shameless copy of Digg running on buzz.yahoo.com ?

SRK’s Twitter Followers Increase By 1300% OverNight

28 Jan 2010I was just chatting with an associate yesterday about twitter and celebrities where we discussed SRK, Brad Pitt and even Shashi Tharoor – tweeple as they are called on twitter. SRK had recently joined Twitter on Jan 03, 2010 and till yesterday had only 7000 followers. Today, I see him having 94,000+ followers, thats like more than 1300% jump in followers.
Talk about celebrity craze!

28 Jan 2010Few weeks back, my blog was infected by a malware script that was injected due to a filezilla attack on my PC. I lost all my blog posts for the past year and hence, this fresh start.

My Journey So Far
Since I started programming in 4th grade, I have learnt a lot with experience. My first business experience was selling computer games I made in 8th grade to our hardware vendor, since then, I have dipped my fingers into advertising, sales, technology and management, a total of 12+ years while I am learning so much more every day than I ever imagined to learn at a top B school. I will write here about technology I have used and still do, lessons learnt as an entrepreneur and my personal life as it goes on.
