After months of traveling around and working only on my laptop all this time, I finally got home.
There I had my 2nd external screen waiting for me to be plugged in.
It’s always great for productivity when I work on a larger screen, just so much more I can do.
But I cannot afford that luxury when I am hopping to a new country, a new hotel or apartment or airbnb every couple weeks while I travel.
Now that I was home, I wanted to plug it in and enjoy all the extra space on my screen 🙂
But then it hit me.
Wouldn’t it be amazing if I used two screens instead of just one big screen.
Use my laptop for all chats/messaging/non-work related browsing stuff or personal tasks…
While using my 2nd screen as a workspace for all my browser windows and 100s of tabs (yes I have a really bad habit of opening a lot tabs)
So I decided to try out this setup and it turns out I was right.
This was a great setup and offered a lot more in terms of screen space and productivity.
But I ran into a little problem.
I did not have my DOCK / App Launcher at the bottom of my 2nd screen.
This was the screen I was using the most for my work and there was no easy setting to click that would CLONE my dock to the bottom of the 2nd screen as well.
I could see the TOP BAR with all the system date/time, active app icons and connections was present on both screens.
So why not the DOCK too?
After a lot of google searches, I found that I can MOVE the dock to one of the two screens but I cannot replicate it to be on both, I have to pick one.
This was sad, I found there were PAID apps on the Mac app store that would let you do this or kinda clone the doc for you on the 2nd screen but I wanted to try this on my own.
So after a lot of tinkering, I figured it out.
Here is what you do (it’s stupid simple…)
Just go into your DOCK settings under System Preferences…
And check the option to “automatically show/HIDE the dock”
Even if you have this turned ON by default, uncheck it once and then check it again.
That’s it.
Now go over to your 2nd screen monitor and move your mouse at the bottom of the screen.
You will see the same dock appear on the 2nd screen that you see on the first one 🙂
You don’t need any paid app for this.
Just this little trick does it for you.
Hope this helps.
